Larry Parks Interviews Ralph Benko

Ralph Benko, at the recommendation of then-Commissioner Lewis E. Lehrman, was called by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to testify before the United States Gold Commission in 1981 on the constitutional history of American monetary policy. He published thereafter on that subject in the New York State Bar Association Banking, Corporation & Business Law Newsletter (lead article), the Dallas Morning News, and elsewhere, and has remained actively interested in all areas of economic growth policy. He has written about the gold standard most recently at The Washington Examiner, Forbes.com, and Foxnews.com.

Ralph Benko is the author of The Websters’ Dictionary: how to use the Web to transform the world (The Websters’ Press, 2008) for which he won top honors, in 2010, after a worldwide vote, the Trophée du Choix des Internautes, from the Paris-based World eDemocracy Forum’s “Top Ten Who are Transforming the World of Internet and Politics.” He has served twice, at the invitation of Atlas Economic Research Foundation, as a judge of the Templeton Freedom Awards for Innovative Media. Benko served the Susan B. Anthony List as network creator of TeamSarah.org. Under grant from the Searle Freedom Trust Benko presented best practices and technical guidance, and mentoring, to many public policy institutes.

In the early 1980s Benko served as Chairman of New York’s 23rd Congressional District Chapter of Citizens for America under the national chairmanship of Lewis E. Lehrman. He thereafter served as an attorney-advisor for the United States Department of Energy for synthetic and renewable energy and served on detail as a deputy general counsel to a White House conference, and a presidential commission, under President Reagan. In 1986, Benko founded The Prosperity Caucus, in Washington, DC, a monthly meeting of free market economists and policy makers featured as the cover story in the National Journal and continues as a unique and respected informal symposium most recently recognized by The Hill newspaper. Under the George W. Bush administration he worked closely with the White House Office for Community and Faith-based Initiatives in support of this leading White House domestic policy initiative. He worked as a principal community organizer with “Operation Rescue and Restore” (of the United States Department of Health and Human Services) to identify and assist in the rescue of human trafficking victims in the United States.

He presently is a principal of Capital City Partners, in Washington, DC, a public and government relations firm. He serves as a senior advisor, economic policy, to The American Principles Project founded in 2009 by Princeton University Prof. Robert George, J.D., D. Phil, McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence. He also serves as a founding director of the Samaritan Medal Foundation. This Holy Land based nonprofit association represents the original Israelite-Samaritan people (currently numbering 750 souls) of Scriptural fame (the parable of the Good Samaritan, among other references) and annually presents medals for Peace and Humanitarian Achievement. The Foundation also awards medals for scholarly achievement in Samaritan studies.

Benko is a frequent contributor of editorial features to The Washington Examiner, Parcbench.com, ConservativeHQ, and has been published by Foxnews.com, Townhall.com, DailyCaller.com, AmericanThinker.com (in a collaborative piece with former Congressman and Federalist Society co-founder David McIntosh). His work is republished widely in other journals of opinion such as BestThinking.com. Benko has been recognized as an active member of the Tea Party Patriots in publications such as The National Journal, TheWashingtonPost.com, and by the FT’s James Crabtree in The Prospect.

Born in New York, New York on October 26, 1952, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Amherst College, Class of 1974, and received the degree of Juris Doctor from Boston University Law School in 1979 and is a member of the Bar of the State of New York.
